GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2 - Pre-Release Thread - Page 5

My wife and I were running errands for her dad today that took up some time.  Along the way, we were chatting about what would be the ultimate soundtrack that we'd want to see for GotG 2.  She's already happy that 'Fox on the Run' by Sweet is on there (that was a big one for her in high school, apparently) so everything else is kinda gravy.  Going by the precedent set by the first one, the songs are going to be somewhat classic/somewhat cheesy (but FUN cheesy, not 'kill me' cheesy).  Also, there will be some rare nuggets in there along with some major hits.  Along those lines, I present my fantasy sountrack for the film:

1. Sweet 'Fox on the Run'

2. Saga 'On the Loose'

3. Gary Numan 'Cars'

4. Falco 'Der Kommissar'

5. Sniff N' The Tears 'Driver Seat'

6. Dire Straits 'Skateaway'

7. The Clash 'Clampdown'

8. Kraftwerk 'Das Model'

9. KC and the Sunshine Band 'Keep it Comin' Love'

10. Loverboy 'Turn Me Loose'

11. Loggins and Messina 'Your Momma Don't Dance'

12. Steely Dan 'Don't Take Me Alive'

13. The Cult 'She Sells Sanctuary'

14. INXS 'Don't Change'

Throw on the B-side and add "Burn on the Flame" by Sweet, too. Kickass little number.

A huge FUCK YES to Nos. 2, 3, 10, 13, and 14.

No Steely Dan. Ever ever ever.

I'll put up with a lot of shit, but I will not put up with people talking shit about Steely Dan.

No love for Falco?

Heathens.

I imagine David Ayer, sitting on a girder while reading Judas Booth's post and saying "who are these fucking guys?

Ayer is within two years of my age.  I guarantee you that he knows each and every one of those artists and songs if he lived in an English speaking country during his youth.

The point I was attempting to make is that his superficial selection of needle drops from Suicide Squad cause me to not believe that.

Ah, OK.  I haven't seen SUICIDE SQUAD yet (by choice) so I can't comment.  I will say this: 'Der Kommissar' would have probably been a perfect tune for the Joker to jam out to at some point in the film.  It was a massive hit in Europe and became a pretty big hit in America when the band After The Fire did an English version of the song (and the original Falco German version even entered the charts and got airplay once the After the Fire version became a hit).  Ah, the 80s...

It's something Gunn added.

Weirdly, I love Falco's little known "Jeannie" more than anything else!

I only know the song where he's Amadeus or something.

Forgive me, millennial speaking.

I can't wait until this movie forces you to listen to the greatness of Steely Dan
post #216 of 252

His voice makes me want to jam rusty forks in my ears and scrape until all auditory capability is gone.

God, Driver's Seat is so boss, although to me it will always be "Floyd Gondolini's Theme."

Also, would not surprise me if we get at least one track from a huge band because Marbel paid all the monies. Either Zep or Aerosmith.

Magic.  Once again Drax gets the biggest laugh from me

WOW.  Rooker with that mohawk is just icing on the cake.

I have a feeling that line from Rocket is going to be the the more vulgar version of "freakin'".

And they are going to get away with it.

I'd be surprised if that were the case.

These are essentially Disney cartoons, after all.  It'll play at 'attitude' but it still wants to be entertainment for the whole family.

Did this air yet? I don't remember seeing it at all.

It aired during the pre-game, albeit a slightly shorter version.

A PG-13 movie is allowed one F bomb, so it is possible.

Yup...that's a winner.

The whole joke is based around what he doesn't say. "Welcome to the frickin Guardians of the Galaxy...only he didn't use frickin'." There's no place in that joke where it would make sense to use the word he's not using.

YEAH

I would prefer frackin.

That was great!

I have a feeling that Mantis is going to be my new favourite.

Pretty excited Yondu and Nebula are on the team now. For some reason it didn't occur to me when the first movie ended that new team members would be added.

Is Nebula part of the team, though? She's Gamora's "sister," so her being part of the story isn't a stretch at all. But I'm skeptical she actually becomes a Guardian.

Most of the imagery, posters and promotional material, show her standing with the team. But then that mixtape poster yesterday lists everyone but her name. Hmmm.

Anything's possible, but what we saw in the first film wasn't Nebula growing a conscience but feeling betrayed or (irony!) like the proverbial red-headed stepchild. She's pissed that Thanos seemed to favor Gamora rather than being horrified at what she'd done in Thanos' name.

I haven't seen the posters (or don't remember them if I have), but could her placement be more to tell viewers she's in the film rather than she's become a part of the team?

Here

Here

And here

Says to me that if she's not an official member by the end of the movie, I'll be very surprised.

Oh! Yeah, looking at those, I'd have to agree.

Chris Pratt's still in it!

Do you really want to invite my negativity to the party?
I'm sick of the trailers already!

looks fine

Oh, also, I read somewhere that Marvel only does "friends and family" test screenings, to prevent leaks or some such. Therefore, this scoring 100 is kind of biased nonsense. Its FAKE NEWS!

What would putting tape on the button do?

This will bomb.

Doesn't look weird enough. Or ballsy enough. Or immersive enough.

Also it's Marvel, so it wiil look like TV. And not have any stakes.

It probably has wisecracks in it. Wisecracks are for rubes.

Superhero Fatigue. Death of Cinema. Etc.
Also, normals aren't even familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

This will be Marvel's first bomb.
