I've seen your sarcastic "oooh OOOOHs."

No thanks.

May I show you something else instead?

Is this a trick question?

Is the marketing for this movie for real?

Plus I'm certain that Superman is the villain in this movie after that picture because it sure looks like they are about to fight someone aboard a Kryptonian style ship or within some Kryptonian style hallway.
Well the bad guy is an alien so it figures his ship or what ever looks different.

And what are you expecting marketing wise from a move 10 months away?
You're right let's just expect them to keep releasing stills like this.

It's great!

I'm surprised WB doesn't release story boards as promotional material. They start so fucking early.
I watched the Ultimate Cut of BvS again last night. The only thing I don't like about the movie is seeing Trump henchman Steve Mnuchin's filthy ridiculous name in the credits.

You did what???

You heard me!
Why don't they just call Cyborg "Almost War Machine"?

Well, that's better than "Not Quite Steel".

It's an astonishingly shitty design. Of ALL the choices they could've made for a cyborg, they go for Baysformers Jr.

Ugh.

What I find really perplexing about all of these movies is how plasticky everything looks. It all looks like really expensive cosplay with little thought given to how these characters are supposed to interact with their environment. I'm exaggerating as I'm sure a lot of thought and effort does go into this stuff, but I don't believe these visual ideas adhere to anything approaching an internally consistent reality.

Edit: I'm fellating Nolan again, but I liked his thought process of slowly moving Batman into scenes where the light levels get higher and higher right up until we eventually see him in broad daylight at the end of TDKR. That kind of thing is coming from someone who is really thinking about the costumes and how they should function on a utilitarian and emotional level.

As far as I can tell with BvS, the entire movie is drowned in rain and darkness because it's a really just a Batman movie and Superman is this inconvenient reality that Snyder has to tolerate.

The human head floating on the CG, unnaturally thin body is the worst part. How distracting to see joints that are humanesque but not the right proportions etc.

Gimme something unique!

I'll take splashes of ipod white and the cool blue translucent glass any day.

"Let's give the black guy a white body and a megabuster."

First of all, that's YOU creating a race issue so good job there.  Second he's always had the mega buster.  He has it in the damn Justice League photo.  But if you're happy with the chrome nightmare by all means enjoy.

Those parenthesis were meant to imitate what I imagined the designer of that mock up was thinking. Not what I think you were thinking.

That design is terrible and I'm pointing out the multiple reasons why.

It looks like Cyborg was in I, Robot.

It looks like the cover art for Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball.

And I've been critical of that live action mess they have chosen to go with many times.

It's from the beloved Teen Titans show!  People LOVE that show!

If Cyborg wasn't all lit up with lasers, that could almost be a black and white photo.

Holy crap! What have they done to Bart's favorite DC character?! He looks awful there!

You can't say he's not a Cyborg.

Rumor is, Affleck stepping down as director of The Batman was phase one of him making a hasty retreat altogether. He allegedly doesn't want to be Batman anymore, and doesn't want anything more to do with the franchise as it's currently running.

That bodes well for Justice League!

I apologize in advance for the video with the annoying blonde. Try to pause it before it loads.

DC is like "I knew we shouldn't have trusted Snyder for the third time!"

I definitely feel bad for him. Imagine landing Batman, and having it be a nightmare combination of Warner Bros and Zack Snyder. Then get the opportunity to craft your own Batman movie, and have the Warners fuck it up from the ground up.

He's been in the business long enough that he had to know what was going to happen. This wasn't a Chris Nolan situation where Chris and Jonathan got to write their own ticket. The Batman is going to be a hail mary to make this DCU work, and there's no way they were going to let Affleck be independently creative with it.

I feel for Affleck getting caught in the middle of this tire fire.

But man does the slow-motion collapse of the Snyder Murderverse fill me with giggles.

I'd still be highly suspect of Affleck's interest in these series of films period. The guy was hounded by fans to get The Batman off the ground and I'm sure he was invested only because he'd have creative control, but I bet Ben had lots of second thoughts about choosing this for his career as the long production of BVS occurred. Getting out of a multi billion dollar contract is a hard thing to do, especially one as popular as this. When his Live By Night failed, Affleck tried to find a way to squirm out of this altogether. Where can he make the time to craft his original pictures and better interests when he's contractually obliged to do these god damn Batman movies for infinity?

What makes it worse is that Affleck is a life long Batman fan: He even has his own "secret Batcave" in his home!

I'm sure he felt he had enough industry cred to impose his own vision on a Batman movie, esp given his Oscars. In other words, he did think he could wrangle a Chris Nolan situation.

So I put this on the suits at WB, because I bet Affleck could deliver a good to great Batman movie given the opportunity.

If this all wasn't taking place in the middle of DC and WB trying to replicate Marvel's success in the fastest, most haphazard way possible, then Affleck totally would have the clout for creative control to reboot the Batman franchise. But thinking he was going to Nolan his own Batman movie in the middle of all this was a bit naive. I mean, shit, they gave the keys to the car to Zack Snyder of all people.

I was one of the few who thought he'd make a great Batman. His public persona for years was basically Bruce Wayne, and we knew from The Town that he could be imposing and intimidating, as well. And after the success he's had as a director, I know he'd knock a proper Batman film out of the park. But not under these circumstances. The next Batman movie is going to be complete shit now, just like BvS was and Justice League likely will be.

The only reason that I can think why this would be happening, is that Affleck sat down to watch a cut/footage of Justice League.
And it's a total disaster.

While I'm not a fan of BvS, everything with Wayne/Batman was good. I can even rationalize MARTHA! As soon as Superman said that, Bruce realized he became Batman to help people, not to go on some quest for vengeance. I know its still a bad scene.

The characterization of Batman was okay on a surface level. Affleck did what he could with what he was given. I was really unhappy with old, grumpy Bruce Wayne who likes to kill people because he's so angryyyyyyy.

But I figured Affleck would say fuck off to all that and do a proper Batman movie that does the character justice (heh), instead of just making him Rorschach in Night Owl's costume.

Do you think WB will even get him to promote Justice League? If he drops out of The Batman, all of the questions aimed at him will be about that. The guy has looked to be on the verge of tears recently. I can easily imagine him having a breakdown on some obscure breakfast show.

Here's how the Justice League junket will go.

"So, Ben, how's the Justice League?"

"It's great. Everyone's great. I had a great time making it."

"Why don't you want to be Batman anymore?"

"Uh..."

He's going to be dead-eyed and downtrodden, just like he was in the press tours for Batman v Superman. Maybe more so.

One minute of Sadfleck was more engaging than the entire movie.

The poor bastard just seems to be completely falling apart in both his personal and professional life. I fully expect him to "take a break" from film altogether soon.

He's a much better director than he is an actor, so I wouldn't mind just seeing him pursue strictly a career behind the camera.   Honestly, I think he's one of the better mainstream big studio directors, making mid budget films for adults, along with somebody like James Mangold (the Wolverine movies, besides the point).

Since Affleck got his career back on track, I can't blame him for wanting to get out of the DCU.

Maybe he can do a Bond film.  Like a remake of Thunderball, where Bond fights Blofeld in a volcano lair.

He just bit off more than he could chew. BvS, cameo in Wonder Woman, 2 JL movies, and he was going to star, write, produce, and direct a solo Batman film!! Jesus that's an insane schedule for anyone plus he wanted to do his own films to boot.

If this rumor is true and he wants out altogether, I gotta wonder if his relationship with WB is irrevocably damaged .
Yeah, after "Live by Night," he's not in a super-strong bargaining position to say, "Get me out of Batman, or I'll just take my exceptional directorial talent elsewhere!"
Hell he's probably threatening to stay. "I will Live by Night Batman so faaakin haaard." (cause he's from Boston he talks like that)

I feel like there's a Live by Dark Knight joke somewhere in here...
